Honor Roll 2011

Dear Friends and Alumni,

On behalf of all of us in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Maryland, I am honored to thank you for your support of our initiatives, programs, facilities and students. I invite you to view our on-line Honor Roll by visiting www.studentaffairsgiving.umd.edu. We are proud to recognize you and the many others who have contributed to and invested in the University of Maryland and the Division of Student Affairs.

You, and all of our donors, are an important part of our collective success. Given the increasingly critical role that private support plays for our programs and initiatives, your gift is especially meaningful.

Here are just a few examples of how your contributions have impacted the lives of University of Maryland students in the past year:

  • We awarded more than 120 scholarships this year, including the Berlage Alternative Spring Break Scholarship, the Ernest M. Willcher Veterans Scholarship, the Maryland Parents Association Scholarship, the Student Entertainment Events (SEE) Scholarship and the Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship for returning students.

  • We continued to support students when they need it most through the Student Crisis Fund and the Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance Program. These critical resources have helped ease student worries about housing, food, utilities, books, transportation, and medical needs when faced with sudden financial obstacles and help them to focus their energy on their education.

  • We opened a new Veterans Center through the generosity of Gordon England and many other alumni and campus partners. We continue to be a proud national partner school of the Pat Tillman Foundation, offering the Tillman Military Scholarships again this year.

  • We enhanced facilities and spaces that enrich the student experience, such as the Eppley Recreation Center, the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance, and the Golf Course. With the support of partners such as the Schwab Family, Open Spaces Sacred Places and the Friends of the Golf Course, we continue to provide and enhance state-of-the-art facilities.

Your generosity continues to improve the student experience at the University of Maryland. Your gifts, no matter what size, translate to lives forever changed and dreams fulfilled. Whether a parent, friend, proud alumnus, or corporate partner of one of our departments or programs, you have made a profound difference.

As you consider where to direct your philanthropic efforts in the future, I hope you will again designate a gift to the Division of Student Affairs in support of the next generation of leaders.

Please accept my sincere thanks for your generous support. Thank you also to those donors who have chosen to remain anonymous. Together, we will continue to make a difference.

With Deep Appreciation,

James Rychner
Director

P.S. I hope to see you at Maryland Day on Saturday, April 28, 2012!
