The powerful learning and serving experiences make a difference in the lives of students and in the communities in which they serve.

America Counts is a partnership between UM and Prince George's County Public Schools which provides high quality after-school mentoring for elementary school students, helping them with reading, basic math skills, homework, problem solving and group activities.
America Counts offers strong civic engagement opportunities for college students and through their experiences many students have followed careers in teaching or non-profit management.
America Reads is a partnership between UM and Prince George's County Public Schools which provides high quality mentoring for elementary school students, helping them with reading, homework, critical thinking, reflective writing and hands-on group activities.
Through their experiences with America Reads many UM students have looked into careers in teaching or non-profit management to help continue giving back to local communities.

The Berlage Alternative Spring Break Fund was established in June 2007 by Bruce '56 and Donna Berlage. The Bright Futures Internship Scholarship Fund supports students pursuing unpaid or low paying internship opportunities. This important fund helps to provide students, who may be facing financial constraints, the opportunity to take part in these internships.
The CRS Sport Club Enhancement Fund helps a deserving Sport Club manage costs associated with equipment, travel for competitions, and club enhancements. This fund is supported through the generosity of wonderful alumni and friends of CRS.

The Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance program at the University of Maryland is designed to help students avoid dropping out of school when faced with unforeseen financial difficulties. Dreamkeepers can help ease student worries about housing, food and utilities, tuition and books, transportation, childcare and medical needs, allowing students faced with sudden financial obstacles to focus their energy on education.

Established in 2010 by Edward Friedson’s family members, The Edward Friedson Memorial Scholarship, provides financial assistance to an undergraduate or graduate student who is a veteran, active duty member or a reservist of the U.S. military, demonstrates financial need, and either exhibits positive career ambitions or displays leadership and service to others in the community.

The Eric B. Young M.D. Travel Study Awards has been awarded to deserving undergraduate students who wish to study abroad since 2006. Each year the Division of Student Affairs awards five travel study awards stipends. The purpose of the program is to give deserving undergraduate students the opportunity to broaden their international horizons while they hone their academic skills.
The Faculty Staff Assistance Fund is available to assist faculty and staff in cases of personal financial emergencies who have exhausted all other avenues of support. The fund was designed to address unexpected financial emergencies such as; a death in the family where an employee must travel a large distance or an emergency medical expenses.

The Food Recovery Network (FRN) is a network of student groups and individuals at UMD volunteering to recover the surplus food from the dining halls and sports games and donate it to hungry men, women and children in the DC area. The Friends of Marsha Guenzler-Stevens Garden of Reflection and Remembrance Fund was established to name a significant element of the Garden in Marsha’s honor. The Robert L. German Veterans & Dependents Scholarship provides an annual scholarship for students who are veterans and/or dependents of veterans or active duty members.
Supports the activities, programs and competition related expenses of the UM Go Ju Ryu Club, as well as the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
Situated just west of the heart of campus on 150 acres of rolling hills and mature hardwoods, the picturesque and challenging UM Golf Course was designed by George W. Cobb, long considered one of America’s leading golf course architects.
The enhancements to the course include reconstruction of all tee and green complexes to USGA specifications, new concrete golf car paths, construction of new bunkers, and expanded practice facilities. Future plans include construction of a pavilion, improvements to the clubhouse and other facilities.
The Maryland Golf for Business and Life Program was established to support the expenses of the "Business and Life Program", to include equipment, staff support and other associated costs of the program.

The Vincent Family Scholarship was established in honor of Robert J. Vincent, Ph.D., in recognition of his passion, dedication and unique contributions as an intelligence officer for the CIA. This scholarship is opened to all combat Veteran students from any branch of the military completing an undergraduate or graduate degree at the University of Maryland.
The Vincent Family Scholar can use funds toward tuition, room and board or the cost of textbooks.
The Healthy Workers Fund was established for the purpose of providing for the treatment and health care needs to University of Maryland Staff who are uninsured through the University of Maryland, University Health Center.
The purpose of the Integrity at Maryland Program Fund is to provide students with opportunities to explore issues of integrity, character and ethics in their daily lives. Through lectures, programs, and other associated activities.
The Marilyn P. Kauffman Golf Course Enrichment Fund was created by the family and friends of Marilyn Kauffman in loving memory of her passion for, and dedication to, the Golf Course and the University of Maryland. The Colonel J. Logan Schutz Omicron Delta Kappa Leader of the Year Award provides an annual monetary award and plaque to an outstanding member of Omicron Delta Kappa selected as the Leader of the Year.
Omicron Delta Kappa Leaders exemplify the ideals of ODK leadership within one or more of the ODK principles: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service; social, or religious activities and campus government; journalism, speech and the mass media; creative and performing arts.
The Brandon James Malstrom Memorial Scholarship was established in December 2002 by friends and family of the late Brandon James Malstrom, a junior operations and quality management major who died suddenly in November 2002.
Spendable Income from the Scholarship provides an annual scholarship for a transfer student at the University whose educational aspirations best exemplify those of Brandon Malstrom.

The Margaret Moose Swallow Alternative Breaks Scholarship Fund annually awards scholarships to students attending a winter, spring or summer Alternative Break Trip with demonstrated financial need, willingness to serve others, and community engagement.

The Maryland Parents Association Scholarship Fund provides need-based scholarships of up to $1,000 per academic year to students who may be unable to continue their education at the university due to extenuating financial circumstances. 16 students have been awarded these scholarships in the past three years.
The MICA (Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy) Diversity Fund helps to promote and sustain programs, services and outreach efforts which help to fuel UMD's diversity initiatives.

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation Endowed Scholarship was established in October 2008 by the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation. Spendable Income from the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation Endowed Scholarship provides annual need-based scholarships for students enrolled at the University who are at least 25 years of age and who meet additional eligibility considerations.
The David E. Mills Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in October 2010 in memory of David E. Mills by his family and friends. In tribute to David Mills, the scholarship is awarded to students who share his commitment to, and passion for, issues of diversity.
Recipients must have worked for The Diamondback for at least two semesters and continue to work on The Diamondback during the award period. The ideal recipient will pose a strong understanding of the importance of diversity in a student-run newspaper.
The Omicron Delta Kappa society is a national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni that recognizes and encourages scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. The annual scholarships will be awarded to entering first year students who in high school demonstrated outstanding leadership potential.

The Parents as Partners Campaign helps sustain programs sponsored by the Office of Parent and Family Affairs and directly support initiatives of the Maryland Parents Association. Support from parents provides students with scholarships that enable them to continue their education at (and graduate from) the university.
Contributions from parents have provided funding for additional tutors in the Math Success Program, helped institute the AlcoholEdu Program, enabled the creation of the Office of Student Conduct's Integrity, Character and Ethics (ICE) Campaign, helped establish a special service-learning opportunity through the Office of Leadership & Community Service-Learning, and much more.
The Tillman Military Scholarships at the University of Maryland are sponsored by the Pat Tillman Foundation "Leadership Through Action™" initiative, which is dedicated to supporting educational opportunities for servicemembers and their families. The scholarships will ensure these leaders have every opportunity to pursue broader educational goals.
The Tillman Military Scholarships at the University of Maryland are intended to cover direct study-related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board as well as other needs such as child care.
The Parents Association Initiatives Fund makes a wide range of experiences possible for UM students, including tutoring services, wellness resources, peer education and leadership development programs, alcohol education, and other programs within the Division of Student Affairs designed to enhance the student experience at the University. The Patricia S. Higgins Scholarship was established in February 2008 by friends and colleagues of Patricia S. Higgins, who worked for Dining Services at the University for more than 46 years. The Patricia S. Higgins Scholarship provides annual scholarships for employees of Dining Services or their dependents who are enrolled at the University.
The Paul E. and Jane F. Butler Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to qualified students of the Robert H. Smith School of Business who are veterans of US military service.
The Pavela Prize for Distinguished Contributions to the University of Maryland Academic Integrity and Ethical Development Program was established in May 2003 by Gary and Margaret Pavela to recognize and reward students who have made distinguished contributions to the academic integrity and ethical development program in the Division of Student Affairs, including fostering discussion about and enhancement of University academic integrity or student conduct policies.
The "Six Columns" Fund was established for the sole purpose of attending to Phi Sigma Kappa's goal of providing financial support needed to maintain a UMD fraternity house on Fraternity Row, the traditional home of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa.
The Camille Rajpat Initiative Endowment was established in May 2003 by Aimlall and Norma Rajpat, in memory of their daughter Camille, who died of complications from cancer treatment while in her senior year at the University.
Spendable Income from the Camille Rajpat Initiative Endowment provides annual support for the Rajpat Initiative Program and the work of the Office of Judicial Programs in the Division of Student Affairs.

The Returning Student Scholarship was established to provide support for need-based scholarships for students enrolled at the University who are at least 25 years of age and who meet additional eligibility considerations.
The Returning Student Scholarship is supported by Returning Student Program donors and the National Council of Jewish Women, Inc., Montgomery County MD Section in memory of Riddia Cass, a pioneer in the organization.
The Robert E. Evasick Memorial Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students who are veterans of US military service and who have demonstrated financial need; and have show career ambitions and/or a demonstration of service to others in the community.
The SEE Scholarship Fund annually awards scholarships to SEE student leaders for helping offset the cost of textbooks initially and growing to help offset tuition expenses.
The Student Entertainment Events (SEE) Operating Fund provides programmatic support for shows and events planned and organized by the SEE Offices and staff.
Consisting of four limestone blocks engraved with the dates of those historic events which occurred during that fateful year, as well as quotes from three graduating seniors and Rudyard Kipling's poem "If," the 2002 Class Gift resides in the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance located on the verdant landscape adjacent to the Chapel.
As a vital piece of the Garden, the gift not only serves as a reminder to alumni, students, and other community members of that extraordinary year but also as a place of solitude and serenity.
The Wofford K. Smith Religious Life Program Fund was established in June 1986 by friends of Episcopal Chaplain Emeritus Wofford K. Smith. Funds donated towards the Wofford K. Smith Religious Life Program help to support ecumenical religious programs at the University of Maryland.
Every other year, five students are selected to serve on the Union Contemporary Art Purchasing Program Committee. The students take a class in contemporary art, learning contemporary art styles, price and value, how to work with galleries and how to build an art collection. During the spring semester, they research potential pieces and travel to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and New York City to purchase art for the Union’s permanent collection.
Students present their recommendations to a panel of curators, collectors and artists for final selection of the works. The selected pieces become the property of the University and are showcased around the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, opening the eyes of students and community members to the varied perspectives and cultures of contemporary artists.

The Stamp Student Union Enhancement Fund provides critical funding to support building renovations and other projects related to the improvement of the Stamp Student Union. In addition, funding provides support for student programming and other initiatives supporting student learning in the Stamp.
The Division of Student Affairs established the UMD Student Crisis Fund in 2001 to keep students on the path to academic success during a personal and unexpected crisis. The Fund helps any currently enrolled student who faces an unanticipated emergency that requires immediate financial need. Any student, a member of the University community, or any person concerned about a student can apply for support.

Through the University of Maryland Veterans Initiative the University is taking the lead nationally in providing services to our veterans, and has become a model for other colleges and universities developing a comprehensive approach to the needs of veterans.
The UM Veterans Initiative provides the incentive and support necessary to help veterans achieve their academic and personal goals and enhances the support offered by the GI Bill.

The Matthew W. Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in July 2007 by friends and family of the late Matthew W. Watson, a University sophomore who died suddenly in May 2007.
Spendable Income from the Matthew W. Watson Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships of at least $1,000 for an incominfg freshman or transfer student at the University who has graduated from Centennial High School in Howard County, Maryland.
The Ernest M. Willcher Veterans Scholarship was established in loving memory by his wife and sons of Ernest M. Willcher, who served in the US Army for four years and spent 36 years working for the Army as a civilian employee, before perishing in the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The Scholarship supports veteran students at the University of Maryland College Park.
